We’re standing here for „Women Wage Peace“ and „Women of the Sun“ – for those who don’t know about them: I’m sure many of you read about who was nominated for „Women of the Year“ by the Time Magazine 2 weeks ago. And maybe you noticed two women getting this title as a dyad: Yael Admi and Reem Hajarjeh. These women are 2 leaders and co-founders of 2 big women’s and peace movements in Israel and Palestine, „Women Wage Peace“ and „Women of the Sun“.And they were actually also nominated for the Noble Peace Prize together!
Those 2 movements have in part individual aims – „Women of the Sun“ f.e. works a lot to establish education for girls and women – but they also have been working together for years, organizing big gatherings and peace marches for example. In 2016 f.e. over 4000 women from Palestine and Israel walked together through the whole reagion for more than 2 weeks, from the very North to the very South and from the West to the East, to turn the spotlight on their wish and aim for peace.
The members of both movements are convinced that there can only be peace on base of a from both sides agreed-upon solution. Their vision is a collaboratively developed solution that gives all children in both countries the chance to grow up in peace, safety and freedom.
The 2 movements wrote a statement together in 2022, which they are still or even more convinced of now, the „Mother’s Call“.
